Our Journey Begins: Finding the Right Place to Grow

Every flower has to start somewhere, and for Bloom & Berry, our journey began with finding the right piece of land to call home.

We knew we wanted to create a flower farm centred around beautiful, seasonal and locally grown flowers. But before we could think about what we were going to grow, there was one rather important thing we needed – somewhere to grow it!

Choosing the Site

Finding the right site for Bloom & Berry wasn't simply about finding an empty field. We needed to think about the practicalities of growing flowers on a larger scale: sunlight, access, water, soil, drainage and, of course, enough space for the farm to grow with us.

When we found our site, we could finally begin imagining what it could become.

At first glance, it's just a field. But we see rows filled with flowers, buckets overflowing with freshly harvested stems and, eventually, people visiting Bloom & Berry to enjoy flowers grown right here.

Starting From the Ground Up

One of the things we're most passionate about is growing flowers locally and seasonally. So much of the cut-flower industry relies on flowers travelling huge distances before reaching their final destination. We want Bloom & Berry to offer an alternative: beautiful flowers grown closer to home and harvested when they're at their best.

Choosing our site was the first real step towards making that happen.

Of course, securing the land was only the beginning. Before planting anything, we needed to find out exactly what we were working with beneath our feet.

That meant it was time for a soil test...
